my first holiday season

dad says i'm really going to dig this time of year. so far, i can tell that "the holidays" means that we get this big prickly green tree sitting in the middle of our hallway. at night something happens and it lights up real pretty (see picture of my aunt florence and i - that's our tree behind her). actually, i have to agree with dad that our tree seems sort of wimpy. there's the nice tall 13 foot ceilings in the hallway and we have this little wimpy 7 foot tree. dad says that when i get bigger we can get a bigger tree. i can't wait.
as for the other pics, that's my grandma and grandpa wu in the colorful picture. that's a cool jumpetdy jump from my cousin's kate's bday party. they wouldn't let me go in the jumpetdy cause they said i was too small. what a jippo! (yes, see my earlier rant on smallism).
and finally there's a picture of my great grandma. she turned 90 last month. how crazy is that! that's like 154 times as long as i've been alive (well, that was quick mental math on my part, so i might have missed a few decimal points, but you get my drift, right). but she's a darn impressive 90. she still refuses to have help around the house, she plays with us kids, she cooks and bakes . . . very impressive. congrats to great grandma!
that's about it for now . . . stay tuned and happy holidays everyone.

my first turkey day
whoo hoo. i think i'm going to like this time of year. i love having visitors, and i got to see almost the whole clan - see pic - (i missed my uncle todd, auntie jenn and my cousies kate and trent as they are on the every other year rotation). but this was a special treat because i got to see my auntie joyce, susan and lynne . . . so i was VERY happy.
the big people had quite a feast and mom slaved away for the entire week. but check it out. doesn't it look yummy. that's a pic of cousin krissie carving the turkey. that used to be grandpa wus job, but i think krissie has taken over.

uncle jj

yippee . . . at long last my uncle jonathan came to visit me! He complains that he never gets his picture on the blog, but i pointed out to him the fundamental flaw in his protest . . . i mean i know there's modern technology and all and that in theory i could use my vast adobe cs3 (no, i haven't learned cs4 yet . . . i know, you're very disappointed, but my schedule is chaulk full between my milk sessions which are now supplemented by 2-3 real people food sessions, let alone my appointments with my play mat, my walks and my beckham-like soccer playing) to edit him into a picture . . . but come on . . . that's basically lying. and i've decided i want to grow up in a better world . . . one where people tell the truth, are honest to themselves and to others.
and so it starts here. if you don't come to visit me, you don't get no pictures on my blog. i suppose i could come visit you, but that's a bit hard for me because the dmv won't give me my driver's license yet, and if you've ever seen ai-yeee (my nanny) squint at objects across the room, we should all be thankful she doesn't drive. and so, except for when grandma and grandpa come over on thursdays, the weekdays are out for me. but i do get out all weekend, but i'm on a rotation because apparently (though i can't really understand why), mom and dad feel a need to see some of their friends, so I don't always get to fit in all of my social plans.
but in any case, i digress. so, uncle jonathan finally came over. in fact, i saw him multiple times in the week. he even fed me my favorite yummy mushed up fruit (mom thinks i like it better when she puts everything in that vitamix thing), but seriously, did you see my two teeth? i can handle the real stuff! try me!
so . . . here he is! for some reason i got no pix of auntie abby, but next time. she did come visit too, though not the three times i saw uncle jonathan.

my first solid food!

ok, i'm thinking it's a brand new month . . . and since it's my blog . . . i'm posting pix of me. i mean, i'm the star and all! so that's all you get for today's post!
note the second picture . . . that's me eating my FIRST SOLID FOOD. Yippee!
then there's the picture of me getting a baby massage . . . how cool is that. that's a real masseuse (spelling?!?) . . . i haven't gotten that far in my dictionary study. i got the massage oil and everything. check out that grin on my face!

6 month doc visit
ouchie! i know, it's been a long time since i blessed you all with me scintillating recounting of my early months . . . but alas, one must wait for the best things in life. so i just got back from the doctor. 4 big a** needles . . . and let me tell you, just because we can't say anything, doesn't mean it don't hurt. that piercing scream and my face turning red . . . that means, CUT IT OUT! i really don't appreciate being somebody else's lab experiment. i'm convinced that nurse woman didn't know what she was doing . . . it really shouldn't hurt that much. mom says that supposedly, i don't have to go through that again for awhile. thanks goodness.
anyways, in other news, the doc reported that i am a whopping 25th percentile in size (can't remember whether that was weight or height). in any case, rumor has it i'm asian . . . so i'd like to say that there's hope that i'm merely setting the bar low and providing myself upside to overachieve, but alas, i think i am cursed with the genes commonly associated with "short person syndrome." on the one hand, i feel i should be satisfied with the 25th percentile . . . but have you ever thought about the implications? i mean, as i think about my future ivy league education admissions process, i'm supposed to be in the 99th percentile on my SATs . . . and that just puts me in the game. can you imagine what the 25th percentile is?!? geeeesh . . . i know, ugliness! i can't start settling at such a young age with such mediocrity. so . . . the only way is . . . i'm going to have to invent the antitode to cure my "short person syndrome." in any case, i'll get back to you on that one.
oh well, anyways, that's it for now. c ya!

uncle howard

My uncle Howie came all the way from Shanghai just to visit me. He's pretty darn cool . . . though I would like to point out that despite my multiple outfits in these pictures, he seems to always be wearing the same t-shirt . . . yuckie! Maybe all this time away from the States has caused Uncle Howie to forget to change his shirts ;) and check out his hair too . . . he and dad have some crazy do's going on . . . my favorite is the one by the tree . . . it looks like he's building a motorcycle jump ramp on the right side, eh? . . . ooops, does this mean Uncle Howie isn't going to be so nice to be next time he visits?!? He really is the coolest . . . did I mention that he just opened up his own nail spa and cafe in Shanghai that he built from the ground up . . . how cool is that. Supposedly it's all the rage in Shanghai. Check out the review in China Daily: http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/life/2008-08/27/content_6975704.htm http://shanghai.urbanatomy.com/articles/detail.cfm/i/1355/t/spas_of_the_month.html I only wish he lived closer so I could see him more often.

i love skype

sooo much fun. just got off the video phone thingy with grandma and grandpa. not yahoo, not google, not youtube, not email, not IM . . . but me . . . i am the driving force that finally got grandma to login to the internet. ain't that special?!? not only is she on the information highway, she's now an advanced user. she can skype me with video and voice, she can view and comment on my blog . . . guess us babies are the real way to bridge the technical divide, eh?
as for the picture, well, it has nothing to do with skype, but it's one of the latest ones :)

i'm looking hip in my pink and brown ensemble
yes it's true . . . all you people that think the in colors don't change year to year or season to season . . . you're wrong. but luckily for y'all, i'm here to show you the way for the season's trends. this summer season the slightly muted pink color is all the rage. because this is late afternoon wear, i have to add a little bit of flair (that's the brown color). paired together you have my take on the modern, hip, summer baby attire. ok, i have to admit, long sleeves and booties is not your normal summer attire, but you see, we still have this cold thing in our house. thus, even your fashion correspondent (that's me) can't always get it right. that's it for today!

my very first dress

dad's a little weird . . . ok, dad's really weird. but he's totally obsessed with dresses. he's always trying to get mom to trade her sweats for a dress (to no avail i might add). though dad says he'd now settle for sweats with no holes in them . . . but that's an entirely different story. anyways, i digress. so check me out . . . it's my first dress from auntie arpita. yes, i have to admit that a summer dress with a long sleeve shirt underneath is not exactly how the fashionistas envisioned it. yes, this was a day when it was almost 100 degrees out . . . so don't ask me why i have both mittens and a long sleeve shirt on. just because mom is always cold, i have to suffer be having all of these extra layers. you would think that when they picked me up and i'm dripping in sweat that that would be a little hint that i might be . . . HOT! and not just hot like the guys like it, but hot like in i'm really stinky and sweaty. oh sorry, i might be getting a little carried away. in any case, you might also notice my little trumpets from auntie shruti. yes, these are now my signature trumpets since i actually have many different colors to match my various outfits. ok, that's it for today.

my friend steeler
ok, you see, i have this bud . . . his name is steeler! yes, that's steeler as in the pittsburgh football (that's american football for all you dang euros) team. you say . . . what kind of name is that?!? well, you see his dad is just a tad fanatical (with a capital F-A-N) about his football team and yes, his middle name is steeler. honestly, i can't even remember his first name because who would want to call him anything else?!? in any case, check out this dude . . . he's got sooooooooo much hair. i think he's like only 1 month older than me . . . doesn't he know that us gals are supposed to have all the hair. i really could use some you know. i'm not thinking this sinead o'connor thing is going to go very well for me! but i figured out why he has so much hair . . . he sleeps through the entire night! i mean who would really want to sleep through the night? when you're sleeping you don't get to play with your mobile, you don't get to hang out with mom and dad, you don't get fed, you don't get to play with the alphabet frog . . . i mean, all you do when you sleep is just sit there. it's totally over-rated which is why i refuse to sleep any more than 3-4 hours at a time. in fact, i really only hit 4 hours once a day. it's really just cause i love mom and dad and want to see them more . . . not of course that i'm saying that steeler doesn't love his mom (his mom christina is pictured here) or dad, tran. ok anyways, i mentioned steeler before in my previous friends post, but it wasn't until today that we had a pic to share!

cool schwag

hi everyone, i know it's been awhile since my last post. i really can't wait to meet all of you. in fact, dad says i'm even more fun now since i actually laugh and smile at you (especially if you do really ridiculous things like dad). i'm finally tipping the scale at over 10 pounds (i still can't believe i have friends that were born at the weight i am now . . . poor moms!). check out some of my latest pics . . . i especially like my 2 cool hand-knitted blankets from the farnhams and aunties nancy and lynne.

party!

hey, grandma and grandpa just threw me this sweet party. ok, truthfully, i didn't really know anybody there. there was a lot of chinese being spoken and despite the fact that mom speaks to me in mandarin and the nanny speaks to me in cantonese, as you can see from my eloquent english prose, i'm still partial to the queen's language.
so anyways, my grandparents had this thing in their backyard, i guess it was to celebrate me not croaking in my first month of life or something along those lines. check out what they did . . . they roasted a whole pig. it was sweeeeeeeeeeet. anyways, here's a few pics of the pig and some relatives.

shout out to my baby friends!
i've been a little delinquent in my posts. i have so much to report. let's see, where to begin. i'm sorta sad right now because grandma left after being there every day of my life since i was born. but she decided she needed to go home to ningbo to be with grandpa. i guess i understand, but boy am i soooooo much cuter than grandpa.

as for other updates, i'm officially 2 months old today! yippee. at the last weigh in, i tipped the scales at over 9 lbs, so i am indeed fattening up. i've started my quest for other cute cuddly friends. mom and dad seem to know lots of other folks who have kids my age. there's baby gianna martinez. i think she's the oldest of the sub 1 year old crowd. she's pictured here with dad. then there's steeler nguyen . . . he's got soooooooo much hair. i thought i had his picture, but don't know where it went! then there's sienna lew who i have to thank for all of my clothes that i wore for the first 2 months. if you've read my previous posts on smallism, you know that i was quite frustrated with the state of the world for small babies. and that extended to the clothing department where there were no nice clothes for tiny babies like me. that was until sienna was kind enough to lend me her swank threads. thx babe! then there's alexander sutton. we've only briefly met, but dad really wishes i too had blond hair. tough luck dad. and then there's our two neighbors ethan shen and cameron lin. i think they've been trying to put the moves on me, but i'm playing hard to get.

and of course there's danica (i'm not a racecar driver . . . yet) chew. she was born exactly the same weight and height (to the ounce and inch) as i was. i know alex and chris spent a lot of time together, but having baby girls two weeks apart who weigh exactly the same is a bit on the freaky side, don't you think?!?
anyways, shout out to all the baby peeps!

happy birthday to me!
yippeee! i'm one month old today! of course, on the surface that may not seem very exciting to you . . . after all, my routine is still sleep, poop, eat, sleep, poop, eat . . . you get the point ;) that much really hasn't changed. much to dad's chagrin, i still don't laugh at his funny faces and bad jokes - but as i would like to point at to him, neither does anybody else. i also haven't yet picked up my first golf club or written my first line of code (though you have to admit, my prose is pretty good for a one month old!).
so then, why is one month such a big deal?!? because at one month i get to . . .
1. leave the house! yippeee. mom finally is going to let me out into the real world. and let me tell you how much i love riding in my swank orbit carseat/stroller. it's actually quite hilarious to see people stare at my get-up. you'd think i was riding around in a flying saucer. so it's not your everyday stroller/carseat, but it's pretty darn cool. dad likes it because he has to pump up the tires like a car. mom likes it because she can collapse it with one hand. and i like it because i can swivel around in my seat so i can look forward, backward and sideways all while still attached!
2. check out the dudes! let me tell you, i feel like there's been a conspiracy against my socialization. first the doctor tells me i'm too small (see smallism entry), then mom and grandma give me this chinese one month confinement thing, then mom and dad hear these stories of all my other friends getting sick and decides they decide they don't want to take any chances. but now, finally, after one month of me talking to the side of my bassinet and the side of mom and dad's head . . . i get to see other real living, breathing people. which really means i can start scouting for the dude who looks really swank in his pampers. so, come on, stand in line. i'm taking applications for pampers buddies now! (oh yeah, and if the parents want to come visit, that's now ok too).
